CANNON BEACH - "Over the River and Through the Woods" opens at the Coaster Theatre Playhouse Friday, Sept. 24.

Joe DiPietro's family comedy tells the story of Nick Cristano, a nice Italian-American boy who dutifully visits both sets of grandparents every Sunday for dinner. At one of these Sunday dinners, Nick drops a bombshell: He has been offered his dream job in Seattle. His grandparents can't face having him leave Hoboken, and so begins a series of schemes to keep him around.

Gail Balden directs this heartwarming play, starring Kay Bredleau, Bonnie Lively, Tom Ayres, Barbara Ayres, Don Mespelt and Joanna Magee.

"Over the River" shows at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 30, with a 3 p.m. Sunday matinee Oct. 10. Tickets are $14 to $16. For reservations, call the box office at (503) 436-1242. The Coaster Theatre Playhouse is located at 108 N. Hemlock St.
