NEWPORT - The first ever Glory Days Celebration is set to honor veterans Monday, June 14 at the Newport Elks Lodge with a barbecue, raffle, silent auction and flag retirement ceremony.

Organizer Chuck Huntting explained, "The Glory Days Celebration was created through the desire to give our citizens an opportunity to honor their flag and at the same time their local veterans." The Newport Elks Lodge 2105, Toledo Elks Lodge 1664 and Newport American Legion Post 116 have joined the event to raise money for programs that support veterans and their families.

An all-day barbecue starts at 3 p.m., with a raffle and silent auction beginning at 8 p.m. The event will culminate with a flag retirement ceremony at 9 p.m. led by the Newport Sea Scouts and the U.S. Coast Guard. For information, call Huntting at (541) 270-7500 or e-mail revdrclh@netscape.net
