A retrospective exhibition profiling the diverse talents of the late Denis Bourland runs Oct. 21 to Nov. 14 at the Clatsop Community College art gallery, 1653 Jerome Ave. The artist's reception is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21.

Bourland, formerly an assistant administrator and art instructor at Coast Rehabilitation, also taught within the art department of Clatsop Community College.

His education is as broad as is his style and choice of medium, earning degrees from both George Washington University and American University. Bourland continued his studies at the Brooklyn Museum School of Art, studying etching and then onto Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine.

Included in his body of work are oil paintings, an abstract exploration of color and form, mixed media collage, etchings, pottery and pen and ink cartoon drawings.
