Seaside resident PRISCILLA SNABEL took the photo shown of a bizarre-looking vehicle tooling around Seaside on Aug. 27. So what is it?

The festooned van belongs to Portland resident SCOTT CAMPBELL, aka EXTREMO THE CLOWN or the Portland Monkey Man.

A little research revealed an entertaining story about Extremo by KATU photojournalist MIKE WARNER in a Reel People segment in May (http://tinyurl.com/xtremoclown). Scott is pictured, inset, in a still shot from the video.

“I got the van specifically to attack it with my art,” Scott revealed to KATU. Under all the Extremisms, it is a 2003 Chevy Astro van. “If you are what you drive,” he observed, “I guess I’m in trouble.”

He says his mission in life is to make people laugh, and he certainly succeeded in Seaside.

“We pulled over to take pictures,’ Priscilla said, “and the driver entertained us with an impromptu musical mini-puppet performance. Still makes me laugh when I think about it.”
