Both GEORGE HAGUE and California blogger JOHN WILCOCK wrote in to say that an article extolling the virtues of our fair city, “ASTORIA, Ore., is called ‘Little San Francisco’ for a reason – several reasons, actually,” appeared in Sunday’s LOS ANGELES TIMES travel “Weekend Escape” section (http://tinyurl.com/latastoria). The subtitle is: “’Little San Francisco’ on the Columbia River has made an amazing comeback from its fishing and lumber days.”

The writer, SUSAN SPANO, who is clearly a big fan of Astoria, also wrote an article that appeared in the April Smithsonian Magazine, “The 20 Best Small Towns to Visit in 2013,” ranking Astoria No. 5 on the list (http://tinyurl.com/smithast).
