Feeling a tad broke, but you still want to go out tonight? The Ear has an offbeat solution for you: Go see the FILM TRIATHLON entries at the Liberty Theater. Its a free event, and the doors open at 6:30 p.m. The first film will begin at 7 p.m.
But what, you may ask, is a film triathlon? Since Sept. 7, teams of amateur filmmakers have been running around Astoria and its surrounding areas, putting together epic shorts that could win them cash, prizes and filmmaking glory! MYCHAL SARGENT, co-creator/organizer of the event told the Ear.
The triathlon part is that the competitors have to not only SHOOT and edit their films, they have to WRITE them and create an original SCORE, too all during the 5-day, 18-hour competition period. But never fear, they have plenty of incentive, as the grand prize is $5,000 plus prizes, and a spot in the ASTORIA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL. The (by now breathless) winners will be announced tonight at the Liberty.
