Warrenton resident PAM ACKLEY is all smiles after her 1969 Camaro Z28 clone was chosen as one of the top ten muscle cars in Seaside's first Muscle Beach Cruz June 12. A panel of judges perused more than 120 cars originally built from 1962 to 1974 with engines no smaller than 350 cubic inches. The judges chose ten cars that best reflected the image of the muscle car era. Astoria resident PAT O'GRADY's 1970 Chevrolet Chavelle was also picked in the top ten.
Other local winners are: DAN and ROBIN CHRISTENSON of Seaside, "Best Daily Driver" with a 1967 Chevelle SS; TERRY and TINA BACON of Gearhart, "Raced on Sunday-street legal racer" with a 1968 Camaro SS; and JIM and CHERYL DOTY of Seaside, "Chief's Worst Nightmare" with a 1962 Chevrolet 409. This tongue-in-cheek award was picked by Seaside Police Chief KEN ALMBERG, who chose the car as the one most likely to have a "nightmare" driver to reflect the car's cool image and muscle engine.
