In One ear: Send Marcus some love

Eight-year-old MARCUS BOLLES (pictured) and his family still need your help. His cancer has returned, and he and his mother, MELANIE BOLLES, are returning to New York for surgery to remove a new tumor in his pelvic area. They will have to stay for three months for Marcus to receive radiation treatments.

Although MICAH SAPP’s Yoda Project, friends, family and local businesses have raised more than $5,000 for the trip, the cost for the stay at Ronald McDonald House alone is $35 a night (90 days is $3,150), and then there are cabs, food, toiletries, etc., plus the expense of staffing Melanie’s business in her absence.

“This community has been such a huge blessing,” Melanie observed, “and I hate asking for help. I wish I didn’t have to, but I can’t do it alone in order to give Marcus the means and support to fight this demon.”

You can help by donating online at, or at any Wells Fargo branch to the Marcus Bolles Medical Fund, account no. 5615221842. Donations and gift cards (for groceries, Subway, pizza, etc., for the rest of the family at home) can be mailed to Marcus Bolles at P.O. Box 1313, Astoria, OR 97103.

Even if you can’t donate, you can still help by sending a card. “It would be awesome if my Yoda Project friends could send Marcus lots of Yoda love in the mail,” Micah suggests. “He arrives in New York on Tuesday. My mom said people should remember his mom too, since she will probably be worrying a lot.” The address is Marcus Bolles, c/o Ronald McDonald House, 405 E. 73rd St., New York, NY 10021.

“Thank you all so much,” a grateful Melanie said. “We are overwhelmed with the outpouring of love support and prayers. God bless each and every one of you for your gifts of hope!”
