Ear: Balloon

From The Daily Morning Astorian, Sept. 23, 1888:

F. Jovis, a French aeronaut, is building an airship in which he proposes to attempt to cross the Atlantic from New York this fall. It is to be called the Atlantic (l'Atlantique, actually), and will be 200 feet high … Jovis thinks he can make 70 mph with it, and expects to land … three and a half days after starting (in Norway, Sweden or Ireland). The cost of the enterprise is fixed at about $40,000 (now $1.2 million).
