The Brothers of Max Catharsis, an instrumental trio, will play at 9 p.m. Friday, March 21 at the Voodoo Room, 1102 Marine Drive. Cover is $5.

The Brothers of Max Catharsis are a Seattle-based instrumental trio composed of Joe Messer on guitar, Ryan Ferris, on bass, and Jay Jaskot on drums. They have been together for more than six years and focus on creating music fused with rock, drum and bass jazz.

Altogether they've taken bits from the music of the world and created a sound to call their own. Aside from playing throughout the Northwest, they've put out two albums. The latest is "Collection Reverie." Musically, they skirt the borders between jazz, rock and ambient with subtle world-beat nuances.
