SEASIDE — The installation of the 2013-2014 officers of Seaside Elks Lodge 1748 was held March 23. Exalted Ruler Jan Jackson named Ken Wolfe as Elk of the Year, the highest award a member can receive, in recognition of his many volunteer activities, dedication to the community and to the Lodge.

Annette Brodigan was awarded the Citizen of the Year in recognition of her community activities, and Past Exalted Ruler Jeanne Uzelac was named Officer of the Year for her commitment to the operation of the Lodge. Commendations were awarded to Trustee Darryl McKnight for his work with veterans and to Secretary Dennis Brodigan for his continued service to the Lodge.

The 2013-2014 officers were installed by the past exalted rulers. The new leaders of Seaside Lodge 1748 are Exalted Ruler Jan Jackson, Leading Knight Cindy Wolfe, Loyal Knight Debbie McKnight, Treasurer Kerri Wright, Secretary Dennis Brodigan, Tiler Fred Loser, Inner Guard Joan Beneke, Chaplain Joy Cruz and Trustees David Darling, Howard Aune and Darryl McKnight.

The Seaside Elks Lodge has also been busy with fundraisers, and collected more than $102 with a Shamrock Fundraiser to assist the Healthy Kids Program, which ensures children have adequate medical insurance. In March, the Elks also gave more than $1,700 to the Seaside Food4Kids Backpack Program. Volunteers continue to help assemble the backpacks. 

With the Valentine Candy Gram program, the members of Seaside Lodge donated more than $330 for Meadowood Springs Speech and Hearing Camp, near Pendleton, which has programs to assist children with various speech and hearing difficulties.

In the past year, the Lodge has awarded $2,000 in scholarships to local graduating high school students, $200 to local elementary school students, impacted more than 600 local students with the Hoop Shoot Program, and helped with free eye screenings for Head Start children.

In April, the Seaside Lodge will host the Oregon State Elks Convention from April 25-27, with members from Oregon, Washington and Idaho attending.
