CANNON BEACH - The Coaster Theatre offers local kids the opportunity to experience the rewards of collaboration, the thrill of being on stage and the magic of theater with its fourth annual Summer Performing Arts Day Camp.

This season's production will be "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," based on the novel by Roald Dahl. The camp runs Aug. 15 through 26, with performances Aug. 27 and 28. Morning sessions, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., are for third- through fifth-graders; sixth- through eighth-graders attend afternoon sessions from noon to 3 p.m. Cost for mornings is $90 and for afternoons is $125.

Directing the program is Chris Harris, a teaching artist from the Young People's Theatre Project in Beaverton. After getting his acting start with the Project, Harris has since trained with the Royal Shakespeare Company in London and with the Seattle Children's Theatre. He has taught drama classes for the Boys and Girls Club of Spokane, Wash., and directed several children's shows at Gonzaga University.
