The Lower Columbia Preservation Society sponsors an encore workshop, "Researching the History of Your House," 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Heritage Center, 1618 Exchange St.
Presenters are Astoria preservationist Bruce Berney, Clatsop County Historical Society's Curator of Collections Liisa Penner and historic building consultant John Goodenberger.
Participants will learn how to document and identify their homes' significant features. The workshop will include a tour of the Historical Society's archives, where participants will have the opportunity to research the history of their houses through historic photographs, maps and directories.
"LCPS is offering this workshop a second time because the topic is so basic to historic home ownership," said Goodenberger. "Since the workshop was first offered more than four years ago, many newcomers have purchased old homes and are interested in their histories."
The workshop is free for members and $5 for nonmembers. For an additional $5, the workshop fee may be applied to a one-year membership in the LCPS, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve, protect, and promote the historic architecture in the Lower Columbia region.
