The Astoria Lions Club is footing the bill for a Free Community Open Swim Day from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Astoria Aquatic Center, 1997 Marine Drive. The event is open to all residents of Clatsop and Pacific (Wash.) counties and includes the pool, water slide, lazy river, hot tub, children's pool and weight room.

The center has been closed Sundays because of city budget limitations. Supporters such as the Lions Club and other local businesses say they are investing in the center's future, hoping that people who try the pool will return as regular users. More users mean more revenue and a chance to add hours and programs.

The Astoria Aquatic Center's new annual pass gives users 90 days free when they sign up. Cost is $198 for adults, $171 for seniors, $165 for youth and $297 for families. The facility also has a party room for birthday celebrations or group meetings. For information, visit the Web site (www.swimastoria.com)
