Adults who want to help area residents learn English are needed as volunteer tutors for a free tutoring program through Clatsop Community College.

The Volunteer Literacy Tutor program promotes adult literacy for native and non-native English speakers. While studying English, students also learn about American culture and values and so become more connected to the local community.

Teaching materials, training and staff support are funded by a grant awarded to Clatsop Community College's Adult Education and Family Literacy Department.

Tutors do not need to speak another language. Adults interested in serving as tutors or who would like to be tutored can call Elaine Purcell, program coordinator, at 338-2557, or e-mail (epurcell@clatsopcc.edu)
