Tim Hurd reads from his new work of fiction at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at Turn the Page, 229 14th St.

Hurd was born in Seaside, just a few miles from where his Norwegian ancestors homesteaded in the 1880s. He earned his bachelor's degree in English with a writing focus from California State University, Sacramento. In 1992, he returned to Astoria to start the Columbia River Coffee Roaster, and in 1997 cofounded the River Theater. He is a playwright, theater director, poet, novelist and short story writer.
