Local author/historian Rex Ziak will provide a dramatic perspective on the Lewis and Clark expedition at the Fort Clatsop National Memorial's visitor center at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14.

Gleaning details from his book "In Full View: A True and Accurate Account of Lewis and Clark's Arrival at the Pacific Ocean, and Their Search for a Winter Camp Along the Lower Columbia River," Ziak provides a dramatic chronological account of the Corps of Discovery's movements and travails during their first weeks on the lower Columbia. His unique perspective combines an extensive knowledge of the region, the expedition's journals, historical weather patterns, and digital images from a highly-detailed and accurate 19th century British Admiralty chart of the lower Columbia River mouth.

Ziak, an avid local historian lives in Naselle, Wash., and has family roots in the lower Columbia area. Following his presentation, sponsored by Fort Clatsop National Memorial, Ziak will be available to autograph copies of his book.
