Fire Chief Jeff Golightly and Assistant Chief Klyde Thompson recently hosted the Lewis and Clark Fire and Rescue awards banquet at the Netel Grange. About 70 Firefighters, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and board members, families and friends attended the annual event.

John Meiners was recognized for serving 10 years on the board of directors and 35 years total service to the department. Achieving 40 years of service each were Capt. Kevin Miller and Firefighter/Former Chief Jerry Alderman. The Fire Chief's award for outstanding service went to Lt. Aaron Bielemeier.

The Emergency Medical responder of the Year award was presented to Firefighter Dan Bunnage, the Officer of the Year award to Lt. Paul Smith, and Firefighter John Graxiola received Firefighter of the Year. CERT member Jo Watts received a certificate recognizing her contributions to the team.

Lewis and Clark firefighters will hold an Open House from noon to 5 p.m. May 4 at the main fire station, 34571 U.S. Highway 101 Business in Jeffers Gardens, to display and demonstrate the emergency response equipment. Refreshments and a barbecue will be provided to thank the public for its support.
