The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) is again co-sponsoring a scholarship contest along with General Mills and the Defense Commissary Agency. There will be three $3,000 prizes (three age groups) for the best letter written to a military service member. The contest ends Nov. 11. For more information about the contest contact Letters to the Front Letter Writing Contest at (lettersfrom@mindspring.com), check its Web site at (www.letters-from-the-front.com) or call at (503) 325-8933.

In addition to these scholarships, national and local MOAA organizations have given other scholarships to eligible students.

A reminder for those who are active duty, reserve, national guard, retired, or former commissioned or warrant officers of any of the military services, that the Lower Columbia River Chapter of MOAA usually meets the third Sunday of each month. Meeting locations vary in location, usually being in the Seaside, Astoria, and Long Beach, Wash. areas. Please join us. Call Don McDaniel, (503) 325-8933 for further information on meeting times and locations and about joining our local MOAA chapter.
