What happens when a department store Santa Claus claims to be the genuine article?

Find out at the River Theater's holiday play, "Miracle on 34th St.," adapted from the novel by Valentine Davies and directed by Mary Davies, when its run begins with a champagne opening at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6.

John Twiss of Warrenton stars as Kris Kringle. Other players in the cast include Erica May, Robert Brown, Rebecca Fisk, Mark O'Connor and Charles Ray, all of Warrenton; Andrew Bergeson, Dani Bergeson, Ken Chapman, Sam Dunkin, Shelby Dursse, Don Seybold, Mark Erickson, Autumn Hurd, Toni Ihander, Annabel Knight, Elijah Knight, Alec May, Nancy Montgomery, Addy Rutter, Taylor Tikkala, Rochelle Wikert, Zoie Wikert and Jaysea Williams, all of Astoria.

There will be a preview showing at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5 when tickets will be two for the price of one.

Other performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, Saturday, Dec. 7, Wednesday, Dec. 11 and Dec. 12 through 14. There will be two matinees at 2 p.m. Sundays, Dec. 8 and Dec. 15.

Tickets are $10 for general admission and $7 for students and seniors and are available in advance at the theater's new on-site box office, 230 W. Marine Drive. Call (503) 325-7487 for hours.
