SALEM - Polly, the political prognosticating cow, is set to predict the winner of this year's presidential election Saturday. The presidential poop-off will begin promptly at 2 p.m. at the Oregon State Fair.
The candidates' names will be printed on large cards and distributed over the floor of Polly's stall. In a fashion similar to "bovine bingo," the candidate whose card receives the first cowpie will be the winner.
According to Eric Silva of Sunset Canyon Farms, his cow Polly has correctly predicted every presidential election since 1992. Silva says, "Polly predicted Clinton twice, George W. once and is set to 'pile on' her pick for the presidential race at this year's fair."
The Oregon State Fair decided to make the event official when Silva called into radio station The New 99.5 The Wolf's Mike and Amy morning show to tell them about Polly's political prowess. According to Mike Chase, "Polly has become quite the topic of conversation ... forget the professional pollsters, people heading to the fair this year should put their money on Polly with the results of her presidential prediction."
The 2004 fair runs through Monday.
