GEARHART - J.D. Spencer's painting, "Olaf's Second Crossing," is one of many to be judged in the 54th annual Open Art Exhibition at the Trail's End art Center. The opening reception and awards ceremony will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at 656 "A" St.

Artists may submit two entries between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29. A $60 membership fee for the Trail's End Art Association includes the entry fee ($15 for nonmembers).

"The Hands of Time," painting by Kathleen Stupfel Hickey.Judging will be done by Nehalem artist Kathleen Stupfel Hickey, owner of the Maya Muse Gallery. She prefers the mediums of watercolor and oil to create landscapes, still lifes and portraits. "My life's work gives me the opportunity to explore and paint the energy and spirit of love, serenity and joy," she said. "When I enter my studio each day, my spirit is uplifted and my life is enriched beyond measure."
