CANNON BEACH - Nationally acclaimed wildlife artist Rod Frederick will be at Ernst & Ernst Collectors Gallery, 224 N. Hemlock St., Suite 1, for a special showing of original and print art Aug. 14 through 21. Frederick will be available to meet fans and personalize works.

Frederick's paintings capture the timelessness of nature in his peaceful views of animals in their natural habitats. He is also known for his paintings of many different sizes and shapes, chosen to best suit his balanced images of wildlife and wilderness. Although he depicts the present, in his work there is the sense that the scene is just as it was 100 years ago.

When in the field, the Salem-born Frederick takes many photos of the animals and their environment. These are followed by thumbnail sketches to accompany his notes. Once in the studio, he assembles his photos to help him fill in the details. But it is the memory of the actual experience in the wild and the emotions connected with it, he said, that generates the idea, firing the creation of the painting.

Ernst & Ernst will hold an artist's reception for Frederick at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21. Call the gallery at (800) 289-1819 for information.
