The Astoria Parks and Community Services Department wants you to get out of town.

The department is coordinating bus trips to destinations in Portland and beyond this fall, providing an easy, fun and low-cost way for residents to travel.

Recreation Supervisor Jim Krettler said the office had received requests from people to put together a trip to see the Broadway touring production of "The Lion King" in Portland. A minimum of 15 people are needed to make reservations, and the trip date will depend on ticket availability. Krettler encourages anyone interested to call the Parks office at (503) 325-7275 as soon as possible.

On Saturday, Oct. 15, you can board the bus at the Astoria Yacht Club and ride to Portland, where the Mount Hood Railroad Excursion Train departs for the Harvest Festival in Hood River. Participants can expect to return to Astoria around 7 p.m. "Get a friend and sign up early," suggested Krettler.

Call the Parks office for ticket cost and other information.
