A sign of the times? “The juxtaposition of the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway sign on U.S. Highway 101 with the backdrop of destruction is more than irony,” Warrenton resident JIM SCHELLER commented about his photo, pictured. “A machine was driving around spreading the mud as the polluted waters run off through culverts into the Columbia River. I wish I had before and after pictures for a more profound comparison, but many of us will recall an ancient sitka spruce wetland 25 feet deep.”

“The refrain from the JONI MITCHELL song echoes in my head,” he observed, "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."
