Seaside’s Calvary Episcopal Church hosts bishop

SEASIDE — Calvary Episcopal Church, 503 N. Holladay Drive, Seaside, will welcome the Rt. Rev. Michael Hanley, Bishop of Oregon, who will preach and preside at the Holy Eucharist at the 10 a.m. Sunday service. A reception follows. The public is invited and encouraged to participate.

Because of this service, the usual Saturday evening Vigil Mass has been canceled.

Bishop Hanley was born in 1954 and grew up in Oklahoma and New York City. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1976, and a Masters in Divinity from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill., in 1981.

He also holds a doctorate in ministry in congregational development from Seabury-Western (2005).

Before being elected bishop of Oregon, he served parishes in Oklahoma, Missouri, and, for 19 years, Minnesota.

Following his ordination and consecration as bishop, he visited all 74 congregations of the diocese in his first 100 days.
