Now that the dust has cleared and the heavy equipment has left the scene, the public can view the changes and additions to Astoria High School at an open house and rededication ceremony Tuesday. School officials said they welcome the community to "come and visit one of the finest educational facilities in the state and allow us to express our gratitude toward the community that made it possible."
Events begin at 5 p.m., when students will lead small groups on tours of the school, beginning in the commons. Visual art will be on display in the art room from 5 to 7 p.m., and the Boosters Club will provide a barbecue from 5 to 7 p.m. in the commons, with dining music by the AHS Jazz Band.
Visitors can tour the Applied Science Research Center at 6 or 7:30 p.m. and take in a performance by advanced drama students at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. The Port City Singers will perform at 6:45 p.m. in the commons.
Principal Larry Lockett will officiate at a rededication ceremony of at 7 p.m. in the commons. To close the evening, the AHS Marching Band will perform selections from their halftime show and pep band repertoire.
