ILWACO, Wash. — Friends of Willapa National Wildlife Refuge participated in a “speed-dating” party June 20, getting to know the kinds of volunteer help that the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge needs, and matching those with the interests and abilities of Friends’ members and guests interested in joining the group.

By the end of the evening, seven new members joined.

Board of director members manned three stations in the Public Utility District meeting room, each providing information about activities.

Jackie Ferrier, project leader for the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge Complex, circulated through the well-filled meeting room, greeting volunteers and answering questions. Business trainer and consultant Deb Sterling of Sterling Concepts organized the “Seeking Refuge” speed-dating, keeping the guests moving around the various information sites, and enjoying cake and coffee.
