The Liberty Theater presents the Black Irish Band in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 28.
It will be an evening of folk music celebrating Maritime and Railroad history featuring an award-winning folk Americana band.
Two California teachers founded the band in 1989 to fuse folk music and Spanish brass. The band got it name from Spanish sailors who jumped ship and settled in Ireland after the Spanish Armada was defeated in 1588. The band performs in 1800s garb reminiscent of immigrant laborers or Western gunslingers.
They use historical instruments including the madola, mandolin, banjo, melodeon, concertina, bouzouki as well as the bass guitar and accordion.
Admission is a $10 donation.
