The Ford Family Foundation named fifty aspiring students as "Ford Opportunity Scholarship Program" scholars. Recipients of the Ford Opportunity Scholarship Program must be single head-of-household Oregon residents attending an accredited nonprofit Oregon college and pursuing bachelor's degree.

Among those named were locals JoAnn Furnish and James Sorrels Jr., both of Seaside. Furnish majors in speech pathology at Portland State University. Sorrels majors in education/teaching at Clatsop Community College.
