“KYLE McCULLOUGH (pictured), 28, a Green Beret, is headed our way,” JAN JACKSON of the SEASIDE ELKS told the Ear last week. He was walking on a 200-mile journey from Wasco County to Seaside to raise money for the GORGE HEROES CLUB (www.gorgeheroesclub. blogspot.com), which sends care packages to soldiers fighting overseas who are from the Gorge region, including Kyle’s brother.

“I think about him every day, and I know that is a huge morale booster to get packages that show the folks back home still care,” he told RaeLynn Ricarte of The Dalles Chronicle, “It means a lot when people say thanks, and sending boxes is a tangible way to do that.”

Kyle’s arrival in Seaside was delayed by a day because he stopped to sign his re-enlistment contract with the Army along the way, Jan said. He finally got to town Monday evening, and the AMERICAN LEGION and Seaside Elks were on hand to welcome him.

He did well for his cause. According to the Gorge News Center, Kyle raised more than $3,000 for the Gorge Heroes Club, and if all the pledges come in, it could be $3,500.
