BREMERTON, Wash. - Steven C. Barnard, a 1990 graduate of Warrenton High School, was named Wal-Mart/Phi Delta Kappa: Good Works, 2004 Teacher of the Year for the seven school districts of the Kitsap Peninsula Region in Washington.

He is the son of Howard and Marilyn Barnard of Warrenton.

Barnard, a social studies and English teacher at Renaissance High School in Bremerton, Wash., was presented a $1,000 check for the school and is eligible to compete for the state award of a $10,000 donation. He also received a plaque.

Barnard has received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant (Military police) in the U.S. Army Reserve. Barnard entered military service in 1991 and is assigned to A Co., 3 414th Regiment., 104th Division at Fort Lewis, Wash.
