Fort Clatsop National Memorial presents its free guest speaker program, "In Their Footsteps: Discovering the Corps," with a presentation by Michael Carrick on "Tools of Survival: Firearms and Edged Weapons of the Corps of Discovery" at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11. Carrick will be sharing vignettes of adventures on the trail woven around incidents involving the weapons.

Carrick specializes in research and identification of pre-1900 firearms and swords. He is the Q&A editor of "The Gun Report" magazine. He is also a regular contributor to the newsletter of the Oregon Chapter of the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation.

The speakers' forum is sponsored by the Fort Clatsop Historical Association, Astor Haus Bed and Breakfast and the Red Lion Inn. Programs are held in the Netul River Room of Fort Clatsop National Memorial's Visitor Center. For information, call the park at (503) 861-2471.
