CANNON BEACH - Royal Nebeker is a featured speaker in the Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce's lecture series. His talk, "The Role of the Visual Artist in Society - Comparing the American and European Models," takes place from noon to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Cannon Beach Chamber Building, Second and Spruce streets.

The afternoon event will conclude with a luncheon reception at the White Bird Gallery from 1 to 2 p.m., featuring a chance for visitors to view new works by Nebeker as well as have posters or catalogs signed.

Local encaustic artist Susan Simon demonstrates her technique of painting with layers of encaustic wax and pigment fused together using the heat of a blow torch from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Painter Bennet Norrbo will be on hand all day Saturday to present a video from his recent television broadcast discussing the artist's work.

The gallery will be open late Saturday to celebrate the Stormy Weather Art Walk and host the opening reception of its Botanical Group Show from 4 to 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served and gallery artist Robert Petersen will play his unique jazz-influenced guitar compositions.

The exhibit will feature works by Allyn Cantor, Andrea Johnson, Tobin Copeland Turner, Susan Simon and many others. The show runs through Jan. 2, 2005.
