NEHALEM - Creative Journeys offers a writing workshop for women, "Write Your Heart Out," from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Cannon Beach Presbyterian Church, 132 E. Washington St. in Cannon Beach. Cost is $70 and no writing experience is required. Bring a journal or notebook to class or a work in progress if you want feedback. Class size for all workshops is limited, and early registration is advised. To register, send a $25 deposit to Gail Balden, 41500 Anderson Road, Nehalem, OR 97131. For information, see www.creativejourneys.net, call (503) 368-7807 or e-mail baldjg@nehalemtel.net

"Our woman's voice needs to be heard," said Balden. Participants will unleash the power of their creativity by putting their words on the page, she said. "Use writing as a tool to tap into your creative heart and explore what means the most to you. We will look at writing as healing, a means of self-expression and a way to capture the stories only we can tell." Tips on how to become a better writer and overcome writer's block will also be discussed.

Balden will also lead a class through Tillamook Bay Community College in Nehalem. "Writing from the Heart" takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21 at the North County Recreation District, 36155 Ninth St. Cost is $42.

Writing from the heart is the only place to begin, according to Balden. "Whether it's poetry or prose, all good writing comes from the heart," she said. Participants will learn to express what matters to them and what gives their lives meaning. The class is open to men and women, and no previous writing experience is required. Register through the college by calling (503) 368-8222.

Additional workshops will be offered in September, October and November.
