Calling all animal lovers. Clatsop County Animal Shelter needs extra hands to help out on Saturdays.

Now that the shelter is open every Saturday, more volunteers are needed to help from noon to 4 p.m., volunteer coordinator Rae Marie Zimmerling said.

"These are the fun times because volunteers can play with the animals and be matchmakers, too," Zimmerling said. "They help greet the public, show the animals and generally visit about adopters' needs and answer questions. So, they would be helping to make the right match between pet and owner."

Volunteers are also needed other days and hours. Volunteers can choose to help out in many ways, including working with the dogs and cats, greeting the public, answering phones and cleaning kennels and cages. Volunteers need to be 16 or older.

For more information about volunteering, call the shelter at 861-PETS or drop by the facility 15 1315 SE 19th St., Warrenton, in the North Coast Business Park. The shelter is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. Information is also available on the county's web site at (
