A portion of the building's outer wall is badly scorched at the Riverine Apartments fire Saturday.Twenty-five firefighters from Astoria, Warrenton and Lewis and Clark fire departments had the blaze under control by 4:13 p.m.

The fire originated in unit No. 79, which was rented to Terra Westfall. The fire appears to have started in the bedroom, and burned out of that area, eventually involving the complete apartment, according to Mark Truax, acting lieutenant with the Astoria Fire Department.

Flames came out of the windows and burned up the exterior, breaking out a window on the second floor. The fire was contained within the unit; however, the apartment above was damaged by smoke, and other units also had minor smoke damage, Truax noted.
