Now that school has started, Astoria police want drivers to be more alert than ever for pedestrians, including children on their way to school. To help heighten drivers' awareness, the Astoria Police Department will conduct another pedestrian safety enforcement operation from 8 to 11 a.m Wednesday, weather permitting. Officers will be stop vehicles that fail to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks. While the vehicle is stopped, the officer will provide drivers with information about their responsibilities to pedestrians under Oregon law.

Astoria police urge drivers to remember that as summer winds down, shorter days mean lower visibility, and there will be more rain and fog.
