The Clatsop County Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association hosted the Cowboys & Kids Organization's assembly programs this week throughout county elementary schools. The programs are designed to relay the message that the American cowboy epitomizes the qualities of freedom, honesty, hard work, courage, individualism and athletic ability.

This year's presenter, Janet Lemmons of Hayward, Calif., was honored in 2004 as Woman of the West by her local Rotary International Club and local NBC affiliate news channel for her contribution to communities through the Cowboys & Kids organization.

Lemmons presented the program to more than 1,350 children from Gearhart Elementary, Warrenton Grade School, North Coast Christian School, Pleasant Valley School, St. Mary's Star of the Sea School and Knappa Elementary School.

The second annual Clatsop County PRCA Rodeo will be held at the Clatsop County Fairgrounds July 20 to 21. For information, log on to (www.clatsoprodeo.org)
