The Astoria School District is looking for community members to fill two open slots on its budget committee, a five-person body responsible for working with the school board to allocate funds.

The committee convenes several times during the year and makes recommendations to the board of directors, which approves a final budget.

One vacant position is for a three-year appointment through June 2008, while the other is an opening to fill the remainder of a position for two years through June 2007.

To be eligible, a citizen must be a registered voter and must have lived in the Astoria School District for at least one year. The deadline to apply is Sept. 30.

If interested, contact the superintendent's secretary at 325-6441 or stop by the district office on the third floor of Capt. Robert Gray Elementary School at 785 Alameda Ave. between 8 a.m. and noon, or between 1 and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
