BANKS - The Astoria boys golf team shot its lowest score in two years Monday at the Banks Invitational, held at Quail Valley Golf Course.
Competing against Banks, Tillamook and Scappoose, the Fishermen still finished fourth, but came in with a 383.
"I was real pleased with the team score," said Astoria coach Dan Foss. "I think if we can improve our short game, we can go even lower. So I like where we're at."
The Braves and the Cheesemakers tied for the team title with a 363, with Scappoose third at 375.
Scappoose golfer Jacob Kienlen took medalist honors with an 82 (41-41), followed by Jesse Jones of Tillamook (86).
Astoria's David Harrison (personal best 44-49-93) and Eugene Park (46-47-93) tied for sixth overall. Rounding out the Astoria scores were Ronnie Stevens (48-49-97), Campbell Roscoe (48-52-100) and Sean Speer (48-57-105).
Astoria's junior varsity golfers all had PRs, from Steven Baxley (87), Will Brooks (100) and Ben Rudolph (112).
Hole-in-oneCharlie Opsahl of Astoria made a hole-in-one Saturday on hole No. 11 at Gearhart Golf Links. He aced the 210-yard hole with a 3-wood.
