The name of the woman who fell to her death from a third-story balcony Wednesday has been released.
Janice Crowley, 49, of Cedar Street in Astoria, was reported to have fallen just before 5 a.m. Wednesday. Her name had been initially withheld so her family could be notified. Crowley's husband Steve Crowley reported the incident.
She was pronounced dead at Columbia Memorial Hospital, after Medix AmbulanceService and Astoria Fire and Rescue attempted to revive her at the scene.
Astoria Police served a search warrant for the home Wednesday afternoon.
"It's either homicide, suicide or accidental," said Deputy Police Chief Brad Johnston. "Our job is to eliminate those one by one."
An autopsy is scheduled today at the State Medical Examiner's Office to determine cause of death.
Police say Crowley had been taken into custody last week for a mental-health hold, a repeat of an event that happened in February. She was arrested twice in?July for theft and disorderly conduct.
