Home Bakery and the Hong Kong Restaurant are the latest victims in a rash of burglaries in Astoria, Assistant Astoria Police Chief Alan Oja said today.

Both businesses are located in the 2800 block of Marine Drive. Employees arriving at the bakery at 1:57 a.m. noticed a broken window. The front door of the Hong Kong was on the ground when police responded at 2:11 a.m.

Earlier this week, burglars struck three other Astoria restaurants - Pig 'N Pancake, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Stephanie's Cabin and Val's Automotive Service, all on West Marine Drive.

Oja said the burglaries appear to be related and he suspects that more than one person is involved. Two of the businesses had ATM machines inside, which the burglars attempted to remove, he said. Although the burglars have done quite a bit of damage, Oja said they haven't gotten much cash in any of the break-ins.

Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call Astoria Police at 325-4411.
