Grand jury probe targets Paul DaltonPaul Dalton, a fund raiser for local schools and former member of the Clatsop County Budget Committee, was arrested last week on charges of first-degree aggravated theft.

Dalton, 49, of Astoria is charged with stealing approximately $50,000 from the estate of Anna Washer, an Astoria woman who died in 1999, while serving as personal representative of her estate.

Dalton was arrested Friday following an investigation by the Clatsop County District Attorney's office and a county grand jury that was prompted by relatives of Washer.

He was scheduled to be arraigned in circuit court this afternoon.

Dalton served on the county budget committee in 2001-02. In 1999, he helped found Children First, a local nonprofit group dedicated to raising money for local schools.
