Astoria High School's leadership students will host the school's first Homecoming Parade 6 p.m. Thursday.
The classes will design floats. Included in the parade will be the school's site council, police cars, homecoming court cars, the school marching band and a firetruck with AHS fire cadets. The parade route will begin at Ninth and Commercial Street and continue to John Warren Field.
Each class will be using $100 to decorate a float as creatively as possible for a class competition. The floats will be judged on class participation, creativity, appropriateness to theme or game, and quality. In past years, classes decorated sections of the hallway with $75. Students cannot tape or staple anything to the school's walls because of recent remodeling.
Alumni and community members are encouraged to wear purple and gold. After the parade, Astoria's football team will play Tillamook starting at 7 p.m. with a half-time show to crown this year's king and queen.
