Commission to interview candidates during a public meeting MondayWARRENTON - Former Clatsop County Administrator Jim Azumano is one of two candidates the Warrenton City Commission will consider for filling the interim city manager position.

Warrenton's current manager, Scott Derickson, was selected by the county to fill the post left by Azumano at the end of June. Azumano served in the role for three years.

Derickson will stay on with Warrenton for a few more months and has expressed the desire to work with the interim manager while the city searches for his replacement.

Warrenton has quite a few large-scale projects ongoing, such as building a new sewage plant, developing a transportation plan and dealing with several wetlands issues.

City Commissioner Paul Rodriquez who serves on a committee of commissioners and city residents conducting the search, said the other candidate is James Hough, former city manager of Reedsport.

Azumano and Hough were on a list of possible candidates compiled by the League of Oregon Cities. Of those on the list that qualified for the interim post, Rodriquez said Azumano and Hough were the ones who decided to apply when asked.

He said Azumano's experience and competence is well known from his county work, but Hough came "highly qualified" by the league and other professionals the search committee has contacted.

The commission will interview both candidates Monday in a public meeting and members should have a decision about a week later.
