A body was found Tuesday off Logan Road near a gravel pit, but authorities say it is too early to know if the person is the victim of a homicide or not.
Clatsop County Chief Deputy Tom Bergin said a team from the Oregon State Police crime lab would be on the scene today. He said he believed it was a man, but could offer few other details.
Logan Road runs from Lewis and Clark Road to Tucker Creek Road, south of Miles Crossing and east of Cullaby Lake. The body was discovered just off the road by someone walking nearby about 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Deputies and search-and-rescue volunteers also were headed to the site this morning to secure the area and begin the investigation.
"It's going to be an all-day event," Bergin said.
The body appears to have been in the area for some time. Bergin said it was discovered by someone walking through the area, which Bergin said is often frequented by hikers and people riding horses.
He said if anyone has information related to the case they should contact the sheriff's office at 325-8635.
