Around the nation, people are remembering the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the East Coast on the 12th anniversary.

The North Coast’s Congresswoman, Suzanne Bonamici, issued the following statement:

“Twelve years ago today, Americans responded with unity and resolve to the horrific attacks that claimed thousands of innocent lives,” she said. “First responders rushed in, people across America gave all they could, and our military stood ready. Today, we take pause to remember those we lost on Sept. 11 and in their honor recommit to achieving a world where war and terror are replaced by diplomacy and peace.”

Bonamici planned to mark the day by attending a remembrance ceremony with congressional colleagues at the U.S. Capitol.
