A boil water notice has been issued for the Burnside Water District, after the city of Astoria’s chlorine system failed Thursday.

The boil order was required because of an interruption in the power supply to the headwork’s chlorination feed system, City Engineer Jeff Harrington said.

The notice is expected to be lifted around noon today, when a bacteria test is completed.

Until the ban is lifted, residents should bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for drinking or cooking.

Harrington said that modifications to the power supply have been made that will hopefully eliminate the same event from happening in the future.
