CANNON BEACH - Residents who want to know more about what to do in case a natural disaster strikes will be able to learn more during a citywide emergency preparation meeting tonight.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Coaster Theatre.

Tom Horning, of Horning Geosciences, in Seaside, will be the featured speaker.

He will discuss what may possibly happen to Cannon Beach in a tsunami and during an earthquake. He also will discuss Seaside's efforts to prepare for tsunamis.

Local architect Jay Raskin will discuss the concept of an elevated shelter that would be built high enough and strong enough to withstand a tsunami's wave.

Raskin, aformer city councilor and mayor of Cannon Beach, suggested the idea of rebuilding the City Hall to act as both a city building and an official shelter when he was on the City Council.

Supplies on showEmergency supplies will be available for viewing during the session, said Fire Chief Cleve Rooper.
